Christopher Bachteler, 48 years-old, was driving a company vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle driven by one Andrew Orvis. The complaint alleges that Mr. Orvis was careless and negligent when backing out of his driveway. The lawsuit, which was filed in the Hartford, Connecticut Superior Court, maintains that Mr. Orvis failed to yield the right of way, backed his car out when it was not safe to do so, and failed to ensure traffic was clear. Mr. Bachteler has been suffering from back pain, herniated discs and loss of feeling in his right leg. According to his attorney, Mr. Bachteler’s first surgery was a fusion to the lower back, but the fusion did not fuse properly and he now needs to get a 360 fusion, which means they will cut open the front and back of his spine and attempt to fuse the discs together. Mr. Bachteler will receive $240,000 of his settlement through worker’s compensation because he was driving a company vehicle. The remaining amount will be paid by Mr. Orvis’s insurance.
